It’s no secret that running a business is HARD. And at times, it’s easy to start looking back to your old 9-5 days and wonder if maybe things were easier back then.
Let’s face it, where else do you have to have your fingers and toes in the sales, marketing, accounting, and executive departments? From editing copy to setting up ads, and every client management task in between, entrepreneurship requires you to wear a LOT of hats.
Not to mention, in the entrepreneurial space, we get so bombarded with new and improved strategies, tactics, and tips that we can get overwhelmed with trying to find the right answers for our business.
How many times have you had to alter your social media strategy because of an algorithm change? Or change your copy because you’ve rebranded or taken your offers in a different direction?
You think you’ve got it down, and then BOOM, a new strategy or platform hits the market, and you’re contemplating burning it all down and switching directions.
Even here at the agency, we’ve experienced moments of exasperation, BUT every time we take a breather or an R&R break, we are reminded that we love working for ourselves and we love this online business we’ve built and the people we’ve built it with, despite those hard days that honestly make you want to cry or throw your phone at the wall (please don’t! Those things are expensive).
We’re not saying you should avoid growth by any means, but sometimes the best answer is the simplest one, or there might not be an obvious answer, or, heck, there might not even be an answer at all. And that’s okay.
What we can always do is show up, do our best, answer questions as they come, and see what happens. The truth is, running a business will not always feel good, and that’s okay. Just do what you need to get back in the groove so you can wear that CEO hat without the overwhelm.
That might look like hiring help or putting more focus on the things that ARE working right.
One of the best ways to realign yourself with your business is to take the break you need. Pour a glass of wine, binge-watch the same TV show you’ve seen a hundred times, and come back ready to kill it the next day. Take those breaks to remind yourself how good it feels to have freedom and flexibility because that’s probably why you started your business in the first place. Don’t forget to take full advantage of it.
Take that step back, rest, and remember that tomorrow will be a better day. Because here’s the truth: we don’t always have to be moving and changing. This is hard as a creative, but it can feel really good to put a little pause on movement and audit what is already working for you.
If you’ve ever questioned everything, you’re not alone. Being a service provider is hard AF, but we wouldn’t trade this for anything.
