Email segmentation is a big deal. If you aren’t prioritizing your email list, you should be. If you’re already well aware of how profitable emails can be but want to know why segmenting is a key strategy, listen up. We’ve got all the details for you right here.
We’re explaining what email funnels and tags are, why you need to be segmenting your list, and so much more.
Did you know that “51% of email marketers say email list segmentation is the most effective way to personalize lead nurturing”?
Segmented emails also have a 14% higher open rate than no-segmented emails. Segmented campaigns have a 100% higher (on average) click-through rate than non-segmented ones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This begs the question, are you segmenting your email list and setting up tags appropriately in your email marketing platform? If you’re not, you’re clearly missing out on some incredible opportunities.
Segmenting your email list just means building smaller lists within your main email list.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A great example of a segmented list is when you create a waitlist page and 20 people opt-in. You’ll tag those 20 people in a specific way so when you go to announce that the cart is open for waitlist only, you will solely be sending to those 20 people.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make sense?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Segmenting your list has HUGE benefits in creating more personalized content and generating higher conversions, open rates, and CTRs.
If you want more info on how to increase email open rates, we’ve got a blog post for that!
A super simple way to segment your audience is to actually have them self-segment themselves from the start. You can do this by offering several different types of freebies (or free resources) covering various topics within your niche.⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few examples of different freebies you could offer include hosting a webinar, providing a checklist, offering guides, or recording a mini-course that speaks to specific people in your audience who are at a particular point in their business or who need help with a particular thing.
When they opt into a specific freebie, you know they are interested in learning more about that topic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For example, when Pinterest used to be a large part of the previous Becca Martin Creative Co. business model, we offered a Pinterest setup guide and a sales page freebie (which we still offer!).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By having two very different freebies, we knew exactly who was interested in Pinterest and who was interested in sales pages and were able to tag them accordingly! Of course, some people will choose to opt-in to both so they can learn more about them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An email tag is a label you can use to classify your subscribers. In the example mentioned above, we were able to segment subscribers by tagging them as “Pinterest,” “Sales Page,” or “Both” based on the freebie they opted in to.
Most email platforms allow you to automatically tag subscribers depending on the specific action taken on your website or landing page or how they interact with your email. You can also manually add tags to subscribers already on your list.
Tags allow you to send targeted emails that provide the information your subscribers have TOLD you they want to hear more about. Targeted emails give you a better opportunity to increase your email open rates, click-through rates, and increase your sales.
Didn’t we say email lists are powerful revenue generators?
Ultimately, segmenting and tagging means you can email your list about any relevant information they signed up for. Segmenting your email list with personalized content has been proven to increase overall conversation rates by 760%!
So you definitely don’t want to miss out on this email trick.
